Making everyday objects special

The project has its origins in the traditional Turkish “Nazar” charms that are carried or displayed to protect their owner from the “evil eye” or bad luck. Reinterpreted by Bergne for today’s world as a family of objects with oversize motifs that seem to watch over us.

The pieces are made in the traditional Iznik factories of western Anatolia using a quartz based clay and glaze recipe that goes back hundreds of years. The inclusion of powerful Swarovski Elements crystals, add texture and light to the pupil and bring these stunning objects to life.

A smaller version was produced in 2011 in regular ceramic using multi coloured glazes. This project Nazar is shown on the right.
