The number 13 is considered either a lucky or unlucky number. Depending on your cultural background it is either embraced or avoided. How did this duality arise and what does it mean to you?

13 is a prime number and so can only be divided by itself, it is a complete number. Thus 13 is the symbol of totality, completion and attainment.

In ancient Greece, Zeus was the thirteenth and the most powerful God of Greek mythology. Thus, 13 is the symbol of incorruptible nature, power and purity.

At the same time, it is probably the most famous unlucky number in the western world. This almost certainly grew from the story of the last supper where 13 sat down to eat, one of whom was plotting the arrest of his host and master.
