IOTA launch

The complete range of IOTA door furniture / ironmongery was launched on the 5th November by Sebastian Bergne in collaboration with British brand izé and hosted at the Tom Faulkner showroom in London.

Building on the original lever handle design from 2010 this project has come to a conclusion 15 years later. The original Iota lever handle is based on an extremely simple notion of subtraction from a supersized bar. If the bent tube handle has become a ubiquitous symbol of modernity, this design subverts, distorts and rethinks it so that the everyday becomes the special. Unusually, the neck becomes the rose and the junction between handle and door becomes a single seamless, fluid sweep.

A complete range of door furniture has now been developed and made available using the same subtractive design approach as the original handle. The family includes a unique knob, locks, even drawer and cupboard pulls, all with a similar sculptural geometry.

IOTA is manufactured by izé a British producer of iconic architectural ironmongery by world renown architects and designers. The range is made using cast recycled bronze and is available in a range of metallic and ceramic finishes.

It happens in careers that you have projects that are slightly unsatisfactory because they don’t quite come together,” industrial designer Sebastian Bergne says, reflecting on the Iota lever handle he designed in collaboration with manufacturer Izé in 2010. _“It had a lot of success at the time when it was first launched, but it kind of went dead after that.”
