Poise lighting unveiled at Noguchi Museum

The Poise lamps designed by Sebastian Bergne are part of the exhibition Akari Unfolded: A collection curated and edited by Ymer & Malta in collaboration with 5 designers that opened this week at the Noguchi Museum, New York.

Poise are inspired by the work of artist and designer Isamu Noguchi using simple materials and humble references. Paper, lead, cord and stainless steel combine to form carefully balanced compositions that project soft directional light in a way reminiscent of a photographic studio.

The magical metamorphosis of the Akari lamps from flat to three dimensional can also be found in Poise. Transformed from flat paper using a folding technique borrowed from the everyday paper bag they position themselves between practical design and sculpture, a territory all to familiar to cross-disciplinary innovator Noguchi.

Poise lamps are available in suspension, standing and table top versions from Ymer & Malta.

The exhibition runs from February 28, 2018 till January 27, 2019.
